Growers across the Central Valley will be taking note of when each of their vineyards begin bud break. Bud break is a crucial stage in the life cycle of grapevines, marking the end of dormancy and the beginning of active growth. The lengthening days provide the necessary light cues for the buds to begin swelling. As these buds open small delicate shoots emerge. On average, across the Central Valley, bud break occurred in early March, with earlier varieties breaking in late February.
